Next door to the apartment I lived in before my present one - three houses were demolished to make way for a new apartment building. It broke my heart to see the groves of old Douglas Firs being cut down. This is one out of a series of "continuous shooting". I thought this one best depicted the sense of motion of the tree on its way to the ground. The others are sharp and frozen in time.

@badala: Thank you Badala! The photo is a bit grainy (shot on fast film because of bad weather) but I was pleased with the capture of the falling tree.
Impressive . You were at the good place at the right moment8

@Still: Thank you Still! I was on my balcony which was on the side of my building - facing all the demolition. I watched all through the houses coming down, excavation, concrete pouring, and construction of the basement parkade level before I moved. The noise was incredible!
Great catch on this. The timing couldn't be better.

@Angry Buddha: Thanks Angry Buddha! Actually, I tried wih separate shots and mistimed it when another group of trees came down. That's why I put my camera on "continuous" for the next ones. With separate shots when I took one when the tree first started to topple - it was down on the ground before I got another one in. Continuous shooting of about 7 frames - got them all the way to the ground!
I can almost feel/hear the crash! What a great photo! Very sad for the poor trees though : (

Thank you Jen! It was sad for the trees! When the demolition of the houses was done, the groves of trees were all marked with red tape around them for chopping down. I almost cried! I had hoped they would keep some that were near the front sidewalk. I asked the foreman of the tree cutting crew how old the one in my picture was. He went and counted the rings and came back and said it was about 120 years old. It looks not as big in my picture around the trunk as it was - because the lens was wide angle to get it all in!
