A WALK THROUGH WHISTLER VILLAGE - 4

Heading towards the ski slopes now - the mountain doesn't look too far away!

Thanks everyone for your commments on my last post - will try and get around but have company coming this evening -

Well! I am back and missed being away so long due to ill health. It was a bit of a struggle to find energy to stay on my computer and post. My daughter Lesley and her husband Robin, gave me this wonderful gift of a cruise to Alaska and Lesley and I had a whale of a time! I could just live on that ship - absolutely wanted for nothing! Hope to hear from you all! Don't know how much I can get around posting comments - so will probably have to keep them brief - but will try to get around as much as I can! Thanks to all my friends for their good wishes!

Please go ahead and give me constructive criticism where needed! I am a bit out of practice at both taking and editing decent photographs - so help me if you can!

A nice "walking corridor" that shows detail of the mountainside treelines in B & W, but would also show a lot of "depth" if processed in color.

I posted this one in black and white processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. I added a Chocolate Filter and a Red Filter and rather liked the effect compared with just a sepia toner. However, you are probably right about the colored version, I will have a look at it. Don't thinkl it was one of the best shots in this series - but kinda wanted to continue the walk right through to the ski slopes. I just don't think I have enough dof in this shot as I have in a lot of the other ones. If its not too bad I will post it tomorrow.

Whistler is only smalll - a ski resort "village". Nothing but condos and other tourist accommodation, shops, restaurants, etc. Very pretty, but pretty expensive. If I wanted to visit I would probably stay in Squamish or Horshoe Bay - both on the only highway north from Vancouver following the coast. It is about 2 hours drive from where I live in White Rock, but probably a little less from downtown Vancouver. You take the Sea To Sky Highway out of Vancouver or drive across Lion's Gate Bridge and drive up the coast from West Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay. The latter is more scenic. Once at Horseshoe Bay (that is where you leave the actual coast-line. The only transportation north from Horseshoe Bay is by BC Ferries, which travel to the islands and up the coast north. To get to Whistler from Horseshoe Bay you have to get on to the Sea to Sky Highway here which continues North and then a bit East inland to the mountains and Whistler. I don't believe there is anything too much beyond that to drive to. It is a fabulous drive - absolutely beautiful country. Whistler is the location of the ski events for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which are being hosted by the City of Vancouver :-).

One place I loved just off this highway was Shannon Falls - there is a whole slew of pictures from there but this one is a photo of the falls itself! Shannon Falls
