MY RHODODENDRON

Posted by Anne (White Rock, Canada) on 14 May 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

This Rhododendron has probably been there since this place was built (1990). I have to keep cutting it back each year but only on the side nearest my small garden and when it is spreading out into the lawn!. The lawns get mowed and some of the ornamental trees near the sidewalk get pruned and shaped, but many of the trees close to the apartments would just run totally wild if the tenants didn't do a bit with them. I don't think the gardening contractor gets paid enough to spend the time on every shrub and plant. A nice lady has the gardening contract, but she says she can't afford to hire anyone else to do more than the lawns and weed whippping, because the Sunnyside Villas society who run the complex won't pay her any more for the extra work. I suspect this Rhododendron was originally a beautiful pink/mauve - but it has more or less returned to the wild state! :-(

PS. The weather has been very glum and raining very hard. Perhaps should have waited to take these when there is sunshine - but you know what Spring blossoms are like. I wanted a picture when they were in full bloom!

Well! I am back and missed being away so long due to ill health. It was a bit of a struggle to find energy to stay on my computer and post. My daughter Lesley and her husband Robin, gave me this wonderful gift of a cruise to Alaska and Lesley and I had a whale of a time! I could just live on that ship - absolutely wanted for nothing! Hope to hear from you all! Don't know how much I can get around posting comments - so will probably have to keep them brief - but will try to get around as much as I can! Thanks to all my friends for their good wishes!

Please go ahead and give me constructive criticism where needed! I am a bit out of practice at both taking and editing decent photographs - so help me if you can!
